Welcome to the Autumn Edition of Group Insurance Insights

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Autumn edition of Group Insurance Insights and I am excited to share with you the latest updates and insights from our team and from around our global business.

It was wonderful to connect with many of you at the recent ASFA Spotlight on Insurance event in Sydney. It was an outstanding event that covered really important topics such as  the Quality of Advice Review reforms signalling super playing an important role in helping members make the right decision for their own circumstances, then what will be the implications for insurance cover. Furthermore, their was a great discussion on the optimal role for components of group insurance in super, such as TPD and Income Protection. Our Head of Product Jennifer Faglioni discussed an industry wide approach to delivering the best possible TPD offering and Darren Wickham our Head of Group Insurance chaired a session on what the industry needs to do better on claims handling.

Following the ASFA event, the Zurich team hosted a Trustee roundtable focused on “Staking a claim and conquering complaints”. The government has signalled the industry needs to do better on claims handling. Our roundtable was an opportunity to bring together key stakeholders across superfunds and administrators to utilise the experience in the room to address various issues related to complaints, delays and support processes on claims.  We will continue to deliver these market facing initiatives throughout the year on key insurance related topics to help solve and deliver innovation to our partners. Stay tuned for future events.

I am a strong advocate for ensuring a gender equal opportunity within the financial services industry, so it was an honour to have the opportunity to participate in celebrating and raising awareness against bias during the International Women’s Day events. We have some great content as part of International Women’s Day.

In this edition of Insurance Insights we feature a Q&A with Wendy Van, Client Service Delivery Manager, we also share the launch of our burnout whitepaper research report and our Global Risks Report along with taking a look at a guide to recommended health checks by age.

Exploring the impact of burnout on insurance

We are passionate about our purpose to ‘create a brighter future together’ and use our resources to contribute to the communities in which we serve through health education, disaster resilience, community partnerships and sustainability.  As a result of several market presentations in late 2023 on the topic of burnout, we are excited to launch our Burnout Whitepaper. This extensively researched paper draws upon the expertise within our organization and the insurance industry as a whole. It provides valuable insights into the latest research, challenges, and opportunities surrounding burnout in the insurance sector. Additionally, it offers practical steps for identifying, preventing, and managing burnout.

The Global Risks Report 2024

Drawing on nearly two decades of original risks perception data, the Global Risks Report 2024 warns of a global risks landscape in which progress in human development is being chipped away slowly, leaving states and individuals vulnerable to new and resurgent risks. It also details the top 5 risks for the next two years such as misinformation and disinformation, extreme weather events, societal polarisation, cyber insecurity and interstate armed conflict. Find out more about the research report.

I would like to thank you for our strong partnership, and we trust you find this edition of Insights informative. If you have any questions about this newsletter content, or anything further, feel free to reach out to myself or a member of the partnership team.
