At the 2023 Conexus Dialogue we had the privilege of hearing from Kerri, a remarkable Zurich customer and Brighter Super member who has faced significant health challenges, and her dedicated case manager, Miriam. Their story is a testament to the importance of comprehensive insurance and the unwavering support that can be provided during times of adversity.

Kerri’s Diagnosis

Kerri, a professional in the energy industry, played a pivotal role in running a leadership program and coaching emerging leaders. Her career took an unexpected turn in 2021 when she began experiencing alarming health issues, including dizziness and severe falls. Kerri persisted in her quest for answers, visiting multiple doctors until one day, her world was turned upside down.

After a battery of tests and scans, Kerri was diagnosed with a three-centimeter brain mass, situated in a critical area. The diagnosis was a shock, but it shed light on the challenges she had been facing at work, struggling with meetings and productivity. The road ahead was daunting, with surgery in her immediate future.

Kerri understood the importance of timely insurance support and was quick to reach out to her insurer, Zurich. Her senior injury manager, Miriam, played a pivotal role in facilitating her claim and guiding her through the process.

Kerri's journey took a challenging turn as she travelled to Brisbane for brain surgery. Unfortunately, complications arose during the procedure, leading to a prolonged hospital stay. Kerri's determination and resilience shone through, even as she faced additional health issues, including pneumonia and blood clots.

Throughout her recovery, Miriam remained a steadfast source of support. She diligently tracked Kerri's progress, identifying her needs and connecting her with the necessary resources. This support extended to essential services like speech therapy and physical rehabilitation, addressing Kerri's concerns about cognitive function and balance.

A Lifelong Bond

As we interviewed Kerri and Miriam, it was evident that their connection extended beyond the insurance process. Miriam's empathy and Kerri's willingness to share her journey created a unique bond.
